Gegründet 1997 in Magdeburg, steht Faces of Fear seit jeher für konzeptionellen Dark Metal mit erzählerischer Tiefe.
Was ursprünglich als Black-Metal-Projekt begann, entwickelte sich rasch zu einer stilistisch offenen Klanglandschaft, in der sich Extreme Metal, melodische Strukturen, Hard-Rock-Elemente und atmosphärische Passagen organisch verbinden. Zwischen 1999 und 2003 veröffentlichte die Band in Eigenregie ein Demo sowie zwei Konzeptalben. „… like a rotting Heart“ widmete sich der romantisierten Beziehung zum Tod – einem Thema, das weniger provokativ als vielmehr introspektiv behandelt wird. Das Nachfolgewerk „P.O.T.E.A.“ setzte sich mit apokalyptischen Visionen auseinander, darunter auch biblische Motive, die bewusst neutral und ohne weltanschauliche Positionierung erzählt werden.
Kreativer Kern der Band ist Gitarrist und Sänger Majkhen XES, aus
dessen Feder der Großteil der Musik und Texte stammt. Sein kompositorischer Ansatz verbindet Härte mit erzählerischem Anspruch und einer ausgeprägten Atmosphäre.
Nach regional erfolgreichen Jahren führten organisatorische und personelle Herausforderungen 2006 zu einer vorläufigen Pause. Ein geplantes weiteres Album blieb zunächst unveröffentlicht. Erst Jahre später wurde das Projekt mit neuer Entschlossenheit wiederbelebt.
Das dritte Album „Fateful Night“ – ein in sich geschlossenes Story-Album über eine tragische Liebesbeziehung – markierte diesen Wendepunkt. Parallel wurden die beiden frühen Werke in modernem Sound neu eingespielt und damit ins Hier und Jetzt transportiert.
Mit der Veröffentlichung von „Veils of Enchantment“ am 13. März 2026 schlägt Faces of Fear ein neues Kapitel auf. Erstmals seit über zwei Jahrzehnten erscheint vollständig neues Songmaterial – gereift, atmosphärisch dichter und stilistisch noch klarer definiert. Heute versteht sich Faces of Fear nicht nur als Studio-Projekt, sondern wieder explizit als Live-Band, die ihre dunkle Ästhetik und erzählerische Intensität auch auf die Bühne bringt.

Founded in Magdeburg in 1997, Faces of Fear has always stood for conceptual dark metal with narrative depth.
What originally began as a black metal project quickly evolved into a stylistically open soundscape in which extreme metal, melodic structures, hard rock elements, and atmospheric passages organically blend. Between 1999 and 2003, the band self-released a demo and two concept albums. “…like a rotting Heart” explored the romanticized relationship with death—a theme treated less provocatively than introspectively. The follow-up, “P.O.T.E.A.”, dealt with apocalyptic visions, including biblical motifs, which were deliberately presented neutrally and without ideological stance.
The creative core of the band is guitarist and vocalist Majkhen XES,
who writes the majority of the music and lyrics. His compositional approach combines harshness with narrative ambition and a distinctive atmosphere.
After several years of regional success, organizational and personnel challenges led to a temporary hiatus in 2006. A planned follow-up album remained unreleased. It wasn’t until years later that the project was revived with renewed determination.
The third album, „Fateful Night“—a self-contained story album about a tragic love affair—marked this turning point. Simultaneously, the two early works were re-recorded with a modern sound, bringing them into the present day.
With the release of „Veils of Enchantment“ on March 13, 2026, Faces of Fear opens a new chapter. For the first time in over two decades, entirely new material is released—more mature, more atmospheric, and stylistically even more clearly defined. Today, Faces of Fear sees itself not only as a studio project but also explicitly as a live band, bringing its dark aesthetic and narrative intensity to the stage.
